Altering old photographs of myself is an expression of sorrow and solitude borne from the absence of my biological father, who left before I was born. The thought of him not wanting me created a void that I thought only he could fill. However, I was wrong about this; I was never alone. My grandfather and uncles Paul, Jaime, and Nelson were my father figures. They filled the void left by my absent father with love, hope, relief, and happiness. They provided the closure I needed.
